Storage VMotion - SRM

Please can you help me with this.

A general system error occurred:

Warning: This virtual machine is protected by VMware Site Recovery Manager. Migrating the VM from a replicated and protected datastore 'XXXXXXXXX' to a non-replicated datastore will cause the VM to become non-replicated and you will not be able to recover the VM using Site Recovery Manager in case of a disaster. Do not proceed unless you understand the potential data loss involved. Note: You can migrate the VM to a datastore that resides in the same consistency group as 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' without any issue.

Checking my vcenter i found some tags

I'm assuming from your question that you are not using SRM or SRM is not protecting the VM you are trying to SVmotion?

how to delete this alert?

Is this because of the tags?

Re: Storage VMotion - SRM

Yes, it is because of the tags. When Storage VMotion sees those tags, it will show this warning.

Be advised that if you still have SRM installed and working, it will re-create those tags automatically soon after you delete them.

You can disable SRM creation of these tags. Please review this page about the SRM advanced settings:

Site Recovery Manager 6.1 Documentation Center

More specifically this setting: storage.enableSdrsTaggingRepair to stop SRM from adding tags to the datastores and VMs again. Also, you can disable this setting: storage.enableSdrsTagging in order to completely disable the interaction between SRM and Storage DRS.

What SRM tries to prevent you from doing is losing DR protection of a VM by moving it to a non-replicated storage. You wouldn't want to violate your Business Continuity plan.

Issues with some VMs in test recovery plan

Hi everyone,

I have a recovery plan with 5 protection groups and 170 virtual machines. When I did the test recovery plan there are 4-8 virtual machines that in the step of Create writable storage snapshot have the following error:

A general system error occurred: vDS host error: see faultCause An error occurred while communicating with the remote host. A change in the network configuration disconnected the host esx04_site2.torres.es from vCenter Server. The change has been rolled back.

Every test I do the virtual machines are different. (The errors are not the same virtual machine)

However, when I do the recovery plan of every protectiong group (5 en total) together work fine.

Any idea?

Thanks

Are you sure that source and destination datastore are replicated and on the same consistency group? If the answer for any of the question is no, that message is the expected behavior.

SRM vCenter connection

Hi all,

I have recently upgraded my vCenter and ESXi hosts from version 5.1 to 5.5. Upon accessing SRM I received a 503 error saying it was unable to connect to the Site Recovery Server.

Upon further investigation I have found that my SSL Certificate on the server has expired, and through some blog posts have found that running a modify on the SRM installation can resolve this issue. However running the installation I receive the attached error when trying to connect to vCenter. I have tried creating a new account locally on the vCenter server and giving it admin persmissions over vCenter however the issue remains.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Please, tell us the exact build number of the vCenter server you're running.
