No That is surprising.

I have already googled many things.

I was getting a time error as I was trying to connect the sites in SRM.  When I tried to reconfigure the pairing, I would get the "failed to acquire Token from SSO server at 'https://mysite-dr/sts/STSService/mydomain'.  After verifying that the time was correct on all devices, I contacted support.  We ended up restarting the web client service on both VC's and that took care of it.  For some reason the web client was not presenting the correct time when trying to connect to the DR VC.

service-control --start vsphere-client

If you uninstall Embedded DB first to be able to uninstall SRM use the following workaround:

Workaround:
Change registry value "UseEmbeddedDb" from 1 to 0 under registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager"

  and then uninstall SRM

Multi SRM Server version in N to 1 environment

Hi All,

I am going to upgrade N to 1 SRM 5.8 to new environment.

I have question on SRM server, is it must upgrade all SRM same time? Or SRM server can co-operation in different versions in same time?

DR Site: 6.5

Prod1 site: 6.5

Prod2 site: 5.8

Prod3 site: 5.8

Prod4 site: 5.8

I can find any KB or doc talking about that. Look any experiencer can share, thx.

your DR site already on 6.5 so upgrading one prod site to 6.5 will not cause any issue. as this is N to 1 setup, prod site will not talk with each other.

I am planing to upgrade. The phase 1 is upgrade Prod1 and DR first.

If DR upgrade to 6.5, other Prod2-5 still using 5.8, the pairing between Prod2-5 still work or not and able site recovery to DR site or not.

Re: SRM with Platform Services Controller High Availability (PSC HA)

Hello again...

With the launch of vSphere 6.7 and SRM 8.1, has there been any additional support for external PSCHA with SRM?

Should those of us using external PSCHA with load balancers, consider a re-architecture back to using embedded PSC's (now that they allow ELM in vSphere 6.7) and use vCenter HA to obtain a better level of PSCHA with SRM?

The lack of support for PSCHA on SRM needs to be resolved one way or the other. I can have a highly available vCenter configuration but my 1-to-1 relationship between SRM and a single external PSC remains a single point of failure.

Thanks

M

DR Solution to consider

Good morning guys,

I'm looking for a DR solution for our infrastructure. Besides SRM which other solution can I consider?

Running:

vSphere 6

vCenter 6

wishlist:

  1. no downtime
  2. fast recovery
  3. replication across multiples sites

Well, if you *need* to have no downtime, the only option for you is something like fault tolerance. So you have conflicting entries on your wishlist. What is required and what is not?

It works, but its up to you to design the best way to monitor the service you are protecting. There are no safeguards in place doing it this way, if the script used to automate the failover gets trigged it will proceed and you can't really cancel it once its started. I added a 15 minute delay and an email sent, just to make sure its necessary.

Hello Girish,

The moment you upgrade the vCenter to 6.0 update 3 ,There is a high possibility that SRM plugin itself would not load due to incompatibility when logging in to web client.

The problem of mismatch between CG and Protection Group in SRM

$

We are using EMC RecoverPoint Replication (CRR) to replicate our main set of datastores to a remote site, and utilizing VMware SRM 6.5 to run failover/failback. To protect 30 datastores through CG,  created 10 consistency group in Recoverpoint and each of them with three or four LUNs. The strange problem is when we are going to create Protection Group in SRM, we suffer from the mismatch between the number of CG in Recoverpoint and the number of CGs seen in Protection Group wizard in SRM. To make it clear, in this step, we could see and selected only 5 CGs which is not match to the number of CGs in RecoverPoint. One of the CGs has comprised 12 datastores and mixed them together, and it would be strange!.

Furthermore, after this stage, if I create new CG in RecoverPoint and add numbers of datastores to it, there is no problem and I can see it correctly in SRM Protection Group wizard!

What are the problems or possible cases I have to check?

If there is any idea or best practices to design CGs in Recoverpoint, please share it.

I faced the same issue and just got the resolution by Vmware.

They have identified the bug in SSO login.

As of now there is no fix but there is workaround.

You just need to add the individual ID to the SSO login administrators group on both site.

Its been resolved by Vmware as this is bug in SSO login in the SRM 5.x & 6.0.

As a workaround you need to add individual id to the SSO login administrators group on both site.

SRM 8.1 and VMWare Tools on protected VMs

$

Hello!

I'm looking to update our Site Recovery Manager to 8.1. I noticed at the bottom of the Compatibility Matrices for VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.1 page it says Site Recovery Manager 8.1 requires VMware Tools 10.1 and later written in red. I haven't seen a SRM compatibility matrix call out a necessary VMware Tools version like this before.

Is anyone running SRM 8.1 and protecting VMs with an older version of VMWare tools? We are grossly behind in updating VMWare Tools on our VMs and haven't needed to update vmware tools in the past for SRM to function correctly. I wonder if the VMWare Tools 10.1 or greater is a hard requirement.

I was looking to apply same design in our environment, PSC HA (load balancer) , VC HA when I came across this thread. I logged a call with VMware support and they advised that PSC HA is supported with SRM. Our VC's and PSC's are at 6.5 u2 and SRM version 6.5.1.1.

They pointed me to these two KB's and advised to make sure ports are opened.
